Turkey’s Wheat Export Wheat cultivation areas; According to TUIK data, Turkey’s wheat cultivation area constitutes 3.2% of the world wheat cultivation area as of 2020/21 production season. This area also constitutes 44% of the total cultivated grain area in Turkey. As of 2020/21 production season, Turkey’s wheat cultivation area is 69.2 million decares, and the top 10 provinces that make up 42% of this area are respectively; Konya, Şanlıurfa, Ankara, Diyarbakır, Yozgat, Sivas, Tekirdağ, Çorum, Kayseri and Mardin.
Wheat production; In the 2020/21 production season, there was a 1.0% increase in cultivation area and a 6.6% increase in yield compared to the previous season. Due to the increase in cultivation area and yield, wheat production increased by 7.9% in the 2020/21 production season and became 20.5 million tons. With the climatic conditions being more unfavorable compared to the 2020/21 production season and the decrease in yield, wheat production is estimated to be 19 million tons in the 2021/22 production season.
Wheat Support Policies in Turkey: According to the agricultural support data of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, fertilizer and diesel supports given in separate items until 2016 were given in a single item as 0.04 TL/kg in 2016. As of 2017, fertilizer and diesel supports continue to be given in separate items, as in previous years. However, significant increases were experienced in wheat supports in 2019, diesel support from 15 TL/da to 19 TL/da, fertilizer support from 4 TL/da to 8 TL/da and difference payment support from 5 kr/kg to 10 kr. It has been increased to /kg. In 2020, certified seed usage support was increased from 8.5 TL/da to 16 TL/da, and fertilizer support was increased from 8 TL/da to 16 TL/da. While the total amount of support given to one kilogram of wheat was 0.12 TL in 2016, it increased to 0.28 TL in 2020.
