Export and Import Unit Value Indices Rise in April

Turkish Statistical Institute announced the foreign trade indices for April.

Accordingly, the export unit value index increased by 13.3 percent in April compared to the same month of the previous year.

Compared to April 2021, the index increased by 9.3 percent in food, beverages and tobacco, 17.6 percent in raw materials (excluding fuel), 78.6 percent in fuels and 10.6 percent in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages, tobacco). .

The import unit value index rose 39.4 percent year-on-year in April. Compared to the same month of the previous year, the index increased by 26.8 percent in food, beverages and tobacco, by 24.5 percent in raw materials (excluding fuel), by 194.8 percent in fuels and by 10.4 percent in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages and tobacco).

Export quantity index

The export quantity index increased by 10 percent in April compared to the same month of the previous year. In the same period, the index rose 8.2 percent in food, beverages and tobacco, 9.1 percent in raw materials (excluding fuel), 25.1 percent in fuels and 11.4 percent in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages and tobacco).

The import quantity index decreased by 3.2 percent on an annual basis in April. In this period, the index increased by 19.4 percent in food, beverages and tobacco, and by 3.6 percent in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages, tobacco), while it decreased by 5.4 percent in raw materials (excluding fuel) and 20.2 percent in fuels.

Seasonally and calendar adjusted data

According to the seasonally and calendar adjusted series, the export quantity index, which was 144.7 in March, increased by 11.9 percent to 161.9 in April. According to the calendar adjusted series, the export quantity index, which was 141.8 in April 2021, increased by 14.4 percent to 162.3 in the same month of this year.

According to the seasonally and calendar adjusted series, the import quantity index, which was 109.7 in March, increased by 0.3 percent to 110.1 in April. According to the calendar adjusted series, the import quantity index became 107.3 in April.

The terms of trade, which was calculated by dividing the export unit value index by the import unit value index and recorded as 91.2 in April 2021, decreased by 17.1 points to 74.1 in April this year.
